It took us several months to weed the site by hand, pulling up umpteen armfuls of nettles and thistles to get ready for planting. We were careful to remove as many roots as possible from the perennial weeds and uncovered the remains of the original garden, which included some some ancient currants and some stubborn crowns of rhubarb.
